Tube Glassing Evaluation
I have started glassing (mostly carbon fiber) airframe for strength.
I'd like to evaluate a few points.
- Epoxy to Fabric ratio in finished product varies from 0.5 to 1
for professional to 1 to 1 for amateur with fully filled weave. How did
I do with my shrink tape wrap?
- Carbon fiber is much more expensive than fiberglass, but if
carbon fiber is 3 times as strong as fiberglass what is the real cost
savings? Weight savings?
Epoxy to Fabric Weight Ratio
I wrapped a 36" piece of 3.9" PML Phenolic.with one wrap of 5.7 oz
carbon fiber. 3/4" overwrap. Initial weight 427gm; final weight 523gm.
I think I weighted the fabric before I wrapped the tube. The weight was
??; we'll compute what it should have been as well.
